BALKAN OTTOMAN JAMBIYA DAGGER

JAMBIYA DAGGER Ottoman Balkan / c. 1700 A fine silver-mounted antique Ottoman dagger in early slightly curved fashion. The blade is made of wootz steel with the relief engraving now slightly worn. The walrus handle is decorated with silver studs. The solid silver scabbard is in nice bulbous form. The shape of the dagger is quite typical for many Ottoman war trophies (so called turkenbeute) taken in the 1683 Siege of Vienna. We would still date this example a bit later, around the 1700’s. This good-conditioned antique dagger is a fine and a representing example of Ottoman weaponry.
