Grant Morrison may have gotten the name for the main character in this limited series from an obscure 1950s Timely character, but it would be a mistake of laughably cosmic proportions to think any similarities go beyond that. Noh-varr, a member of an alternate universe Kree race, may echo some of the costume and character elements of the 1960s Mar-vell, but again, the similarities don’t extend beyond a passing reference or two. After that, everything is purely original mayhem from the mind that brought us the Invisibles and the re-imagined Doom Patrol.Traversing the known realities, Noh-varr’s dimension-hopping ship crash-lands on an alternate Earth, and ends up in the clutches of the megalomaniacal Midas (imagine if Doctor Doom and the original Iron Man got merged in a transporter accident, and you’ve got the basic picture). To escape dissection, Noh-varr must use his vast arsenal of bio-technical powers to fend off the Midas forces, as well as other nasty surprises, including a sentient corporation and the deadly (and dead sexy) Oubliette.
